| JSPWFL Testimonials - To the many volunteers that have played a grand part in our evolution from our beginning to today. Many of our awards, projects and activities are a direct testimonial to their involvement and therefore we mention some of their names and contributions here, in their honor, and as a testimonial to them. William R. Eastmond - Bill Eastmond was an officer and member of the Manasquan Little Blue Warriors, where he also served as a coach. He was elected Secretary of the JSPWFL in 1981, and served in that capacity until his death in 1994. Bill became a National officer in 1990, with his election as Region Director for the Mid-Atlantic Region. In his own local community of Manasquan, Bill was an elected member of the Borough Council. In his honor and to preserve his memory the Conference changed the name of its annual invitational bowl game to the William R. Eastmond/NJ Pop Warner Super Classic. Part of the proceeds from those games are then placed into a special scholarship fund, the William R. Eastmond Memorial Scholarships, which is awarded to graduating high school seniors, past alumni of any JSPWFL Program. Steven Elster - Steve Elster was an officer and member of the Freehold Giants, where he also served as a coach. He was elected First Vice-President in 1981, and during his tenure, was the guiding force behind such programs as Coach's Safety Orientation and Training. In fact, it was through Steve's efforts, that this program took shape statewide, as well as around Pop Warner’s Mid-Atlantic Region. In 1992, Steve's beloved Freehold Giants' Midget Cheer Squad, won the National Pop Warner Cheerleading Championships. They were invited and marched in the Inaugural Parade of President William Jefferson Clinton. Somewhere along the way, Steve Elster became a staunch advocate for "Cheerleading" issues and concerns. In his honor and to preserve his memory, the Conference named its annual cheer competition for him. Known as the Steven Elster Memorial Spirit Competitions, this is the longest running, and largest event of its kind anywhere around the state. Jerald Jerolamon - "Jerry" Jerolamon hailed from the Fair Haven Tigers, later to be known as the Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs when the two Franchises merged. Jerry is credited with the foresight and initiative of starting this Conference in 1961, and served as its first President. In his honor and to preserve his memory, the Conference voted that the winners of the Pee Wee Division of Play every year, will receive "The Jerald Jerolamon Memorial Trophy." Thomas Smith - "Tommy" Smith came to JSPWFL from the Tinton Falls Falcons, now known as the Monmouth Falcons due to a merger with Eatontown. Tom served as the Conference Second Vice-President in between serving as a member of the Borough Council in Shrewsbury Borough, and a member of the Recreation Commission. In his honor and to preserve his memory, the Conference voted that the winners of the Jr. Pee Wee Division of Play every year, will receive "The Thomas Smith Memorial Trophy." Daniel J. Walling - Dan Walling was a member of the Middletown Athletic Club Franchise, and is credited with co-founding the JSPWFL along with Jerry Jerolamon. In his honor and to preserve his memory, the Conference voted that the winners of the Midget Division of Play every year, will receive "The Daniel J. Walling Memorial Trophy." |
